Coeducation drives significant growth at Westonbirt School

While maintaining classes of under 20 students, Westonbirt School has grown by 50% over the past two years. After just one year of coeducation, 40% of key stage 3 is now made up of boys and demand is soaring for co-ed sixth form spaces in September 2021.

Headmistress Natasha Dangerfield, described this month in the Good Schools’ Guide as “compassionate, approachable, energetic, a force to be reckoned with” is delighted that the non-selective school is attracting a broad range of candidates and a strong field of scholars;

“In a pandemic phase, breadth of education is more vital than ever. The abundance of outdoor space for sports at Westonbirt and our strong extra-curricular programme supports a holistic approach to education which benefits all students, regardless of gender.

We have recently completed the scholarship programme for our newly co-ed Sixth Form and I have been delighted with the level of demand, the breadth of candidates and the strength of applications.

Parents increasingly appreciate that a greenhouse, not a hot house, is the optimum environment for children to flourish. With 97% of A levels graded and A* - C and 49% of students achieving grade 7 to 9 at GCSE, our results speak for themselves.”

Exciting plans for architectural development, in conjunction with Historic England, are underway to facilitate the rate of growth at Westonbirt.
