At the end of last week, Westonbirt hosted the largest Induction Day to date for an incoming Year 7 and we were delighted to welcome our next group of Year 7 students to school. With more applications still in progress, we are expecting a super year group in September!
In an historic move for Westonbirt, which is in its 90th anniversary year, it was announced a few months ago that the senior school was going to accept day boys into Year 7 from September 2019. This will be followed in 2020 with boys entry into years 7, 8 and 9. After 90-years of all girl provision, this is a bold move for Westonbirt and unusual in that most schools moving to co-education admit girls into an existing boys school. Westonbirt is changing things around admitting boys into an existing girls school and so far, we have been extremely pleased with the response.
On Induction Day, the new students quickly bonded together during a fun-packed day which included swimming in our on-site indoor pool, sports in the extensive grounds, an outdoor BBQ and a fashion show of all the different uniform kit by our current Y7 and Y8 students.
It was a delight to see all the boys who will be entering our first senior co-education year group alongside the girls! Our rugby team will go from strength to strength and we are looking forward to continuing to excel in other Westonbirt sports too.
